Failure to Launch

Are you a young adult feeling stuck and that you can’t move forward in your work or social life?

Have you experienced multiple setbacks at work, and do you feel like others are moving on, or worse, unable to even apply for and obtain a job? Has schooling become a distant dream with applying for it leading to a sense of paralysis? Do you feel discouraged by life? Are anxiety and perfectionism preventing you from moving forward? Does your family have a lot of expectations and put  demands on you?

Or perhaps you a parent who is worried about your young adult child? Would you like to see them advance in their life, finding success professionally and socially and reach their true potential?

Failure to Launch can manifest in several ways, including:

  • A feeling of hopelessness, depression or anxiety about the future

  • A lack of feeling motivated and figuring out what steps to take to move forward

  • An inability to make decisions

  • Avoiding responsibilities and reluctance to even engage in discussions around them

  • A dependence on parents for emotional and/or financial help in order to cope

  • Excessive screen time or gaming

  • A feeling of wanting to isolate yourself from the world

A Note on Neurodivergence

Failure to Launch is a term used to describe young adults who may be struggling to find their way with adult responsibilities from work and school to everyday living. One’s self-esteem can be affected by going through this.

However, through psychotherapy, you or your adult child can learn effective strategies and techniques for reducing anxiety and managing everyday wellness. Through coaching, practical strategies can be developed to manage time, work, and other responsibilities.

A Note on Neurodivergence

Failure to launch can happen to anybody. However, I have found that there is a special sensitivity needed for the neurodivergent. The fact that we struggle with lights, sounds, transitions, making eye contact, and other everyday work experiences can make the transition that much harder.

If there is one thing I have learned from working with neurodivergent adults, it is that failure to launch is not a question of personal failing. It is about collaborating to create everyday strategies that work with your neurology.

Through emotional regulation skills, processing sensory differences, and even self-advocating, a neurodivergent adult can manage the challenges of adulthood!

I hope that you will reach out to me to find out more about my services and move forward!
